pretty good monitorApr 19, 2010 this monitor is good except that i had 2 burn-out pixels which is right in the middle of the screen.. i read that pixel burn outs is not covered by the warranty... so junk! but its a really good monitor towards performance and quality.
Marginal picture qualityApr 04, 2010 I am not at all pleased with the LCD monitor from Viewsonic. We have used them in the automation system in radio studios, but for photo editing, I am not impressed with the color and the contrast ratio. I feel like my venture (albeit late) into purchasing an LCD flatscreen monitor was a failure. I much prefer the CRT screen for fine photo editing.
Don't do this, unless you work almost exclusively with word documents. In that contect this monitor is fine.
Fatal flawFeb 26, 2010 As other reviewers have noted, the dynamic contrast feature turns itself back on every time the monitor goes into power saving mode or is turned off. This is a nuisance since the feature has to be manually shut off and makes video look terrible. Apparently newer versions of the monitor fixed this issue but I have an older one. I contacted Viewsonic technical support and there is no firmware update or anything for the older versions.
Works well with MAC MiniFeb 21, 2010 I bought this monitor to use with a new MAC Mini. Our old monitor was VGA only. The standard adapter with the Mini is DVI, and the VGA adapter is an added cost. This VX2240W has both interfaces so it was a good fit without needing to buy another adapter.. The monitor is extremely bright and I've turned down the brightness quite a bit. However, I'm pleased that even in a sunny room, there is no glare and the monitor is plenty bright to view in a well lit room. I'm running the monitor at 1680 x 1050. Nice and sharp, and the colors are fine, once I adjusted with the MAC. For normal computer use, I'd say that this is a good choice. This is my second Viewsonic monitor, and my old one is still going strong.
Great picture, cheap standJan 30, 2010 I've been using the ViewSonic VX2240w for 6 weeks now and couldn't be happier with the picture quality. Edges are crisp and clear...first-person shooter games look fantastic. The only gripe I have is the quality of the base. This component is lightweight plastic with no heavy filler. As a result, the monitor is susceptible to shakes and vibrations that are transferred from the desk it sits upon. Walk softly around it and don't set it up next to your clothes dryer and you'll be fine. ;-)
