Inside Information on the Romantic Windsor CastleJul 23, 2009
By Sharon M. Bressen
"Mema"
After visiting Windsor Castle this June, I was delighted that the Queen was in residence. I purchased this book at their souvenir shop as a remembrance.
The current edition of the guide includes a photograph of the wedding of The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
From the building of the castle to the restoration of the 1992 fire, you are taken through the time of the Norman period, the Medieval expansion, the Tudor Windsor era, and then to the present House of Windsor.
With many drawings and photographs, you are shown public rooms, state apartments, semi-state apartments, gardens, and many paintings.
The guide was very helpful in labelling my own photographs from the visit.
If you are going to visit Windsor Castle or want to see how the other half lives, by all means purchase this delightful guide.

Excellent, thorough guidebookOct 08, 2011
By LD I purchased a used copy for $4.63 and couldn't be happier. The inside cover has a 3D drawing of the castle and grounds with everything identified. After the history with drawings, there is a brief description of The Gallery, Queen Mary's Doll House, and the China Museum.
The State Apartments and Semi-state Rooms have full page dramatic color photos. You will wish you could buy post cards this large. A good description of the room is wonderfully supplemented with a list of the items in the room, such as paintings, furniture, porcelain, tapestries, arms and armor, sculpture, and display cases.
The dining rooms, throne room, St George's Chapel-they are all here. The decorative arts and the architecture shown are worth the price of the book.
very useful guide bookApr 19, 2012
By Jason A. Greer I recently returned from a Easter weekend visit to Windsor Castle, and purchased the official guidebook before I traveled there, and found it to be a great preparation resource.
I highly recommend getting a copy of this guide book before you travel to the Castle, as it will allow you to appreciate the interior of the building and the layout of the whole Castle better.
The day I visited, the Queen was in residence, so the semi - state apartments were closed to visitors, and many future visitors may find that parts of the Castle are closed for official use, while touring; so having a copy of the rooms you may miss could be useful to you as well.
This official guide, obviously written for a broad audience, covers the history, public spaces (including St. George's chapel), and objects in the major public rooms succinctly and with clarity. Many official guides of historic sites leave much to be desired, but the Royal Collection guides are really first rate.

Windsor Castle: Official Souvenir GuidebookApr 24, 2011
By JBG It's a very good book about this 1000 year old castle. I wish it had a large floor plan of the entire castle. It was a bargain at $4.00.
